5 Tricks to Make Fish taste Less Fishy

Have you ever experienced eating a fish and it tasted somehow unpleasantly ‘fishy’? Well, it does really happen sometimes. Fish tastes ‘fishy’ when it has not been handled properly when it was caught, or when it is not fresh already. When you buy seafood from the market or seafood online delivery in Hong Kong, there might be chances that fish do have that fishy taste – and it is pretty normal.

But do not worry, here are some simple methods you can try to get rid of the ‘fishy’ taste so you can enjoy dinner better:

1. Soak the fish in lemon

Lemon juice, or any acid like lime, tomato, or vinegar can counteract the compound which is the cause for the fishy taste.

To enhance the flavor of the fish, you can even give the fish a balsamic vinegar and citrus bath with a little bit of maple syrup.

2. Add crunch

To get rid of the fishy odor and to enhance its taste and texture, try adding crust to the fish. You can do this by crusting the fish using a flavorful coating of breadcrumbs, or toasted nuts and seasoning.

3. Give it a milk bath

Try soaking the fish in milk for 20 minutes before cooking it.  While adding milk to fish does not sound really appetizing, it works wonders in getting rid of the fishy odor because the milk counteracts the acid which causes the fishy odor.

4. Spice up the fish

Spices like cajun, pepper, paprika, and oregano can help in masking the fishy odor. The reason is that fishes can absorb spices fairly well. So, you can either use a Cajun rub, or make your own spice recipe.

5. Top it off with a squeeze of lemon

Lemon and lime can not only help in removing the remaining fishy odor and taste, but also enhance the overall flavor of the fish.  You can also cook the fish alongside with the citrus fruits so it can really absorb the flavor.
